Many of those involved in the story of the Passion of Christ came to a crossroads and had to decide which way to go. Some chose well, some did not, and the stories of each of these experiences at various crossroads help us to know what to do and what not to do when we encounter similar crossroads in our own lives. Each service in the series reveals in some way how Christ and his cross lead us to decide the path of God's will in our many crossroads in life.
WEDNESDAYS IN LENT
This past week our Sponsorship Agreement Holder, Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) informed us that a family from Aleppo in Syria have been granted refugee entry into Canada under the sponsorship of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Nizar, Meryem and their 2 young sons, Abdul and Yezen will soon be on their way to Vernon to begin a new chapter in their lives. Along with this family of four, the members of St John’s and the students, parents and teachers from Hillview Elementary can shout for joy that our prayers have been answered. Details on timing will be forthcoming, but we expect them to be in Vernon within the next 2-3 months.
What comes next?
First and foremost we should pray. Pray for this new family whose lives have been uprooted, who will be travelling to a new country, who will be challenged to learn a new life style, a new language, so many difficult days to come, so pray for them. Pray for all the volunteers, those that have helped to this point and to all who will continue to help moving forward as we help this family adjust to Vernon and Canada. Thank the Lord for all the blessings he gives us every day.
Second, consider how you can volunteer as we help this family get settled in over the course of the next year. There will countless ways that you can help. Announcements and sign up lists will be coming soon.
Third, in the next short while, the committee will start finalizing a list of household items that will be required to help this family get started. Remember, they are likely coming with not much more than a suitcase. So if you have items that are clean and in good shape let us know.
Fourth, if you have ideas on fund raising or wish to make a donation, we will be “topping off” our fund account this spring and summer. And
Fifth, pray some more - we can never pray too much. Praise the Lord

Freedom Session is a healing journey designed to help us move from areas in our lives where we feel stuck, to greater levels of freedom and hope. Among other areas, Freedom Session can help in the areas of co-dependency, excessive guilt feelings, need for control, depression, addictions, and perfectionism. We use a revised version of the 12 steps along with Biblical teaching to give real hope and a clear future. Groups meet on Thursday nights for 20 weeks of Freedom Session, followed by 8 weeks of "Authentic Living" training.
